We're looking for a Senior Accountant to join our international prop-tech team at our headquarters in Barcelona to support and manage accounting at the entity and group level for our organization. This position reports to our Group Controller.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage full month end close processes ensuring deadlines are met for various group subsidiaries
  • Review work done by other members of the team ensuring generally accepted accounting principals and tax rules are followed
  • Submission of UK VAT
  • Prepare and review complex journal entries, accruals, prepayments payroll and intercompany recharges
  • Support the monthly group consolidation process, including review and preparation of intercompany reconciliations, interest on intercompany loans,eliminations, and foreign currency translations.
  • Prepare supporting documentation and schedules for annual audits and tax filings.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining strong internal controls and accounting procedures to ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and local regulations.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of accounting operations within Business Central.
  • Support the Group Controller with financial analysis and reporting, including variance analysis and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Assist with preparation of the group to undergo audits from 2025 onwards, creating processes and implementing best practices. 
  • Maintain strong relationships with international subsidiary finance teams and outsourced accountants.
  • Where the accounting is handled by an outsourced accountant, work with them to produce the general ledger at the end of each month and import into Business Central for the consolidated accounts. 
  • Work with all operational teams to ensure the accounting data is correct and up-to-date. Take part in reconciliation of data among accounting system, 
  • reporting system and production systems. 
  • Complete ad-hoc investigations as instructed by the Group Controller
  • Identify and implement improvements as required across the group.
  • Liaise with external auditors.


KEY INFORMATION ON THE POSITION

  • Employment start: as soon as possible
  • Indefinite contract with a 3-month probation period
  • Position based in Barcelona, at a coworking space in Poblenou
  • Hybrid work policy: Tuesdays and Wednesdays at the office / totally up to you the rest of the week (remote work or at the office)
  • Base salary is 30,000€ to 38,000€ gross/year depending on seniority and experience
  • The application journey has 3 key steps:

    • Step 2: Video interview with CFO and our Group Financial Controller
    • Step 3: reference check


ABOUT OUR FINANCE DEPARTMENT

The Emerald Stay finance and accounting department has been growing quickly with the extremely quick pace of revenue growth the company has been experiencing these past years. The company operates as a group headquartered in Switzerland with subsidiaries and operations in France, Spain, the UK and the US. We operate with internal systems particular to the hospitality industry and operate a mixture of inhouse and outsourced accountancy teams. Our central Finance Reporting System is Business Central. 

ABOUT YOU

To be considered, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a finance position in industry.
  • Commercial outlook
  • Experience with Microsoft Business Central (formerly Dynamics) preferred but not mandatory.
  • Audit experience
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS and local accounting standards.
  • Awareness of the principles of VAT
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Fluency in English required, French a big plus
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong work ethic.   
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
